New To Cichlids! [Help Stocking]

Hi guys. I'm new to Cichlids. I'm very intrigued with the Malawi Lake Cichlids and am looking to set one up very soon. I've been going back and forth on what size aquarium I should get, but I think I am going with 55 gallons right now.

Can someone tell me how many fish I could stock in my 55 gallons (208 liters)? I'd love to have something fun and colorful. Also, please state how many of each I can have.

Also might be worth mentioning the dimensions of the tank and how much rock you plan to put in..

I don't know the dimensions. I don't know what rocks I will get either. I am likely going to make my own little cave/arch with various different rocks. This is all just brainstorming. I'm not even 100% sure I will get African Cichlids. I'm here to get ideas.
