New To Aquariums

I'm from Glengormley.. and found this cracking wee shop in Glengormley, although its not the easiest to find, but has a very good selection of fish, and the guy who owns the place has helped me with some advice on fish and my cycles and stuff..
Grovsner Tropicals is also a class place for fish.. although all the marine fish make me feel like my tropical fish are no longer as class as i think they are when im at home looking at them! :D

My G/F used to live in Glengormley so if you give me a few directions I'm sure I'll be able to check it out.

Grosvenor Tropicals is also an excellent shop with some beautiful marine fish.

I think the main rule is, if you keep the correct amount of barbs, ie minimum 6-8, you should be able to keep fish that aren't slow moving or long finned.
So, its 1" of fish per Gallon recommended to stock a tank, so 8 tiger barbs would give you 24" of fish, there isnt really a lot more you could have as you only have 6" of fish to play around with.

Thats kinda putting me off the Tiger Barbs, but then again what I thought was a large tank 3 weeks ago seems smaller by the day and it doesn't look like I'll be able to do any thing else if I go for tiger barbs.

So, forgetting all the fish I have mentioned before (inc the barbs) what would you guys recommend, there is really that many fish I am lost.

It really depends on what your tastes are, in my community aqarium i have platys, dwarf gourami's, black skirt tetras, black phanton tetras, danios and a plec, and there is plenty of colour and activity in there. I love platys as they are so friendly and playfull and the two types of tetras are great, not like your normal neons(nothing against them!), just interesting and the to dwarf gourami's are lovely to watch. They all get on well, the tetras are a bit jumpy but only where fodd is concerned. They are ghardy fish and very easy to look after. Platys come in all sorts of colours and are mad, i can even tickle mine!LOL! I have some LED lights that i turn on at night and they love it and its a real part of my lounge when its all lit up like Blackpool Illuminations! Do you have any particular fish that you like the look of, as the worlod really is your oyster!(No pun intended!)GRJ :good: Here are some pics.
