i have just bought a tank 2ft long i have not bought any fish at the moment, can any body tell me what fish i can put in together,i am totally new to this.

The best thing for you to do is look around and see what of kind of fish interest you, then see if your tank is suitable. Also you'll need to post your tank capacity in gallons or litres.

Have a look at:

Don't get your heart really set on anything till you find out what size tank it needs tho.... I must have decided I wanted 3 species when I first started only to find they would get huge or simply not coexist.

Good luck.

hi cherryliz :)

There is a very important thing you need to know about before you decide what fish to get, called cycling.

There is a thread here:

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=10099

that explains everything you need to know. Sorry if you already know about it but you did say you were new. ;)

As for fish...what are you looking for? Colourful fish? active fish? a good idea would be to go to your local fish store, write down the names of the fish you like the look of, and come back and ask about them here. ;)

Try to start with hardy and easy to keep fish such as guppies, platys, mollys, neons, danios ....

Cycle first. Danios are a great first fish. Zebra danios are especialy nice and the long-fin variety is also attractive. They will school when other fish are around and are very hardy. I'd avoid neons myself, they can be fragile if not kept in very soft, acidic water. Same goes for most other small tetras. They need to be added to an established tank. A 2ft tank sound like maybe it could be 20 gallons?

Well in that case zebra danios may not be the best choice because they like room to swim in. Platies are another option and some other danios.
