Hi

I have just purchased a 60L Hexagonal tank and wanted to know how many fish this will hold, I already have a smaller tank with tetras, and catfish in but I wanted to go for slightly bigger fish in the new tank, any ideas on what to get (and numbers)? any help much appreciated.

The general rule of thumb is one inch of fish per gallon. For example, in a 20G tank you could have 20 fish that are each one inch in size or you could have 10 fish that are 2 inches. Remember to consider that the fish you buy will grow so you need to count whatever size they will be when fully grown, not when you first get them.

Remember and cycle your new filter.

You also have to consider the footprint of the tank. Generally, you want a fish that is no more than 4x smaller than the length of the tank and 3x smaller than the width. For instance, a 4 inch fish minimum tank footprint would be 16 inches long and 12 inches wide. So with the inch per gallon rule, you don't want to put in 4 fish that are 5 inches or 2 fish that are 10 inches.
