as some of you may of seen my tank has been up for sale http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/358945-full-tank-set-up/, after a big u turn im keeping tank but all fish are going !!
at the moment its a community tank , had no problems , apart from bordem lol i want something a bit more lively ( agrresive , tetorial )
so have decided to empty, remove plants , all fish !!

and go for x2 oscars but need some more tank mates , green terrors , j dempsey JAGUAR CICHLID !!! maybe silver dollars ?? any input would be apprecited , thanks again nik

how big is your tank? Without knowing that, no suggestions for fish can be made.

I had two oscars in the past. They grow quite big.And will attack anything thats shorter than them in a fish tank.
But overall they are not the agressive type, they are a very smart fish, where i'm from we call the oscars the tropical fish dogs, because they in terms of fish the humans best friend. They are not demanding, and eat almost everything you give them. The're only real requirement is space,a AS-MUCH-AS-YOU-CAN-AFFORD fish tank.450 lts is a fairly sized fish tank but from my experience you cannot have that much oscars in it specially if you plan on having other big species also. I always learned between 300/400 lts for a couple more than that aim for 600 ltr.But if you go for it make sure the fish tank is really enough and you'll have a great experience with them.

well the tank is def staying and will not be getting anything bigger , x2 oscars juvinille , and maybe a jd , have got a real nice red gold severum at the min , would they be compatible ??

In a 450 1 Oscar with the JD and the Sev might work but I would be tempted to loose both Oscars and then base it around the JD and Sev :)

you're putting too much in the tank.

when you buy your fish remember to keep in mind the adult size.

oscars have the potential to get bigger than 10", JD about 8" and probably 8" or more for the severum.

thats too much for 450 litres.

that being said as juviniles these fish will be fine but you'll have to rehome them as they grow.

Close but Oscars are usually over a foot and Severums 10 inches + About right on the JD though. But I think a JD and Sev with one or two other similar cichlids is possible just Oscars are such a thick chunky fish that create a lot of waste and are quite temperamental towards other tank mates. An Oscar by its self and dithers and catfish would work ina 450 but mixing other cichlids can be problematic.

How deep is the fishtank? The oscar grows about 35cm (sorry i´m still attached to the metric system).
If the tank is not at least 50 cm wide your oscars won't be able to turn around in the tank.So really check but to my opinion if the fishtank is wide and tall, you can get a couple of oscars in your 450 lts.But i doubt you can put anything else. And they do like to live in couples.

you can check this one there's quite enough information about oscars and enough for anybody to fall in love with this fish.By the way they live up to 15 years

I agree with the aboves, i personally wouldn't go down the "rehome them as they grow" path.

When i stocked my tank i didn't have a clue what i was doing/getting,
i'm going to have to re-home fish as they grow and it's gonna kill me as i'm attached to them now.

You're lucky enough to have some good advice here, think the long run - you'll enjoy the tank alot more.

450 litres ... so many options !

single wet pet - go for a big male midas/red devil or flowerhorn, or oscar.

or a M/F pair ..... JD's, green terrors, midas, red devils, pretty much any Amphilophus species.

Lge cichlid commuity .... Sev (one or a M/F pair), 2 x uaru, angelfish.

Lots of fun choices to make !

well have emptied tank removed all plants and fish , lfs had fish off me , and gave me a credit note !!! which will come in handy  , have left sand substrate , kept bogwood , etc , slate and rocks , looks so empty  , (was quite heavily planted 2 days ago )

so stock goes as follows !! 1 red severum , x2 2" tiger oscars !!

x 3 fish swimming round in a 6ft tank dont seem right , i am very tempted to grow a few fish on and see which ones  steal my heart !!!

having re homed all my fish jus hope i have made the righ decision !!

Ah right its a 6 foot tank? That might work a bit better then - what are the dimensions? I just noticed as well that your filters are a 405 and a 305 - with those big fish I would consider getting 2 Fluval FX5s as you may be surprised as to how much Oscars poop.....

Also dont worry about the tank looking empty those are big fish in there and also you may be able to add in some more non cichlid fish - like a group of Pictus Cats would be nice and or Columbian Tetras might work :)

would the oscars not eat the tetras as they grow or are columbian tetras a large tetra species ?
