Hi peeps, I have just purchased a 150L tank to go with my other 3 LOL,(I did bid on a nice 4 foot 240L but the seller removed it at the last minute, I was rather gutted, but as my other half was buying it I couldnt complain MUCH) Its comes with a Flmax 350L/H filter is this enough filteration ? If not what other filter should i get? £85 for complete set up including stand, lights, filter and delivery, not bad i have to say !

If it's stocked lightly w/live plants the filter should be fine, however if you're going to stock pretty heavily, I'd upgrade filters. You'd want to aim for a filter w/a turn over rate of 750-1000 lpr (or 200-300gph roughly) that will turn over the tank 5-7 times per hour. However, you can get away with a less powerful filter if it has excellent biological media or if you have live plants. What kind of filter does it come with?

As for brand, I've found Aquaclear to be the best HOB/Power filter on the market, if you want to go with a cannister Eheim and Fluval are great brands.

Almost forgot, congrats on the new tank! What are you going to stock with?

the turn over isnt always best fast, on a norma stocking of my 52 gall tank with my filter that does a turn over of 5.5 times a hour and the waters great.
the man at the LFS said some sence to me, "in most filters the water is just gushing through, giving the bacteria in the media almost no time to do there job. in a slower filter with more media its better aslong as the turn over is more than 5 times an hour"

i dont know if thats 100% true, but my water is absolutly fine.

But if you are going to have a heavy stocking you will have to upgrade that filter, or add an additional one. (just remember the filter will come sterile, you will have to cycle it)

I have a fluval 2 in my other tank im going to put that in the new tank with the new filter , I do my water changes every 3 days anyway so them 2 filters should be fine I think. Some of The stocking will also come from my other tanks ; 2 Black Angels, 4 Corys(I think thats what they are called) 2 Honey Gourami, 2 Platties, BN Plec , 10 Neon Tetra, 3 Shrimp.
The Filter that comes with the tank is FLMAX-350L/H (HY-301).
Please tell me what you think.

Angles and neons, not the best idea but somethims works. neons are anglefishs food in the wild.

Thanks for your replies the angels and neons have been kept together bekore and I didnt have any problems with them. When moving to a different tank is it best to use the fresh conditioned water or to use some of the older tank water?
