Hi,
I've been looking to upgrade my 24x12x15 for a while now and just bought a second hand 40"x20"x20" which turns out to be made of 8mm laminated glass.
Is this safe??

Are you sure its laminated, as opposed to toughened ? I would have thought laminated would be a "no no" as it doesnt like being bent, plus the layers will be relativey thin !

Although a quick google reveals that theres a LOT of companies selling for aquarium use !

The guy said it was laminated, from the glass they use to make windscreens!!
You can see it is a sandwich of glass with something (plastic) in the middle.
It had been set up for about 6 years so I'm assumming it is safe ? and watertight.
It does have a stiffening brace in the centre.

I know this is a few days old, but it sounds to me like its made from safty glass (which is what they now make automive glass out of.) but I could be wrong. does it have a greenish tent to the ends of the glass where you can see the layers?

yes it does. What is the difference??
Unfortunately I was storing the tank in the garden on its side while I got the materials together for a stand. During a couple of days of bad weather the wind blew the tank against the side of the house damaging the base slightly at the corner, the outer laminated section has cracked slightly and if I picked at it I could probably peel some of it off. So I wont be using it after all.
I have purchased a new 48x18x21 which will not be getting stored in the garden!
