ok here is the situation,my friend just a few doors down bought a 29 gallon and wants to take some of my angels.....if we put 50% new water and 50% water from my 55 gallon how long should we wait b4 putting the angles in???

thanks a bunch :)

Youll have to wait the standard time it takes to cycle the tank. The bacteria your after lives in the gravel and filter element. If your able to, take some gravel from your established tank to seed your neighbors or if you have an extra established filter insert place that in the new filter. Only then could you introduce the angels slowly and one at a time.

Totally agree try and add some gravel, even if you can't spare a whole filter, a sponge or some floss would help speed things up no end, failing that a couple of plants, rocks etc. There will be some bacteria in the water but the majority is in gravel, ornaments filter etc.

If you can do the above and get some ammonia to do a fishless cycle I'd probably say no more than a week (keep an eye on the figures to make sure though).

ok...i can spare a filter, couple plants and some gravel...should i still give her water too...im due for a water change anyway

p.s its not too much gravel though

oh and also do you think it would be btter to put a filter from my 20 which has been running for almost a year now or the 55 which has only been running for 2-3 months but thats where the angels are

Definatly go with the older filter. Everything you listed will be a huge boost for the tank. Do daily tests for several days to make sure everything is fine before introducing the fish.

Older filter definately and anything else you can spare, I'd say go for the water as well. You'll need something in the tank to keep the bacteria alive otherwise everytime you add more fish the tank will undergo a mini-cycle, fishless is good as you can all the fish together at the end. If you go for the traditional way you don't want to add too few fish cos you'll lose some of the bacteria already in the filter etc.

If he's got his own filter get him to run it along side yours for a while as this will seed his at the same time.

Hi Angel_Lover :D

You didn't say how large your tank is. A 29 gal tank is a good size so yours would have to be quite a bit bigger, but if it is, you could just make a clone of your tank and put them in right away. And....if the fish aren't too big.
