Right seen as my first betta has left me for good :( ive got a 3.5 gallon tank for a new one where he can be happy and alone!

Right my other tank is big enough for me to steal upto 100% of the water to use in my new one and i plan on tanking quite a bit of gravel from my exisiting to speed up things.

How long would you advise to wait before i go and buy a little fella? I plan to add everything tomorrow provided my heater arrives in the post

You'll need to have a filter and do a fishless cycle in the tank, simply adding water or gravel will not cycle it and the tank has to have a source of ammonia for the filter bacteria to survive, with a fishless cycle you'll be looking at a couple of weeks.

i never cycle my betta tanks.. they dont have gravel and i change 100% of the water so often i dont think a cycle could ever happen

a fishless cycle can take up to eight weeks... you need to get yourself an ammonia source (such as 100 % pure ammonia, unperfumed etc), some test kits, and a filter

some people advise against cycling a tank so small though because its easier to just do big water changes regularly

I don't cycle my tanks either. I do water changes twice a week
so there's really no point.

with it being such a small tank then ill do water changes :D

if im doing 100% changes should i bag him like when you first buy them and then do the aclimateising thing?

also if i add a little gravel should i was that everytime is change the water?

thanks

I use the little cups I got them in to hold them while I do the water changes. I always put the lids on too. Then when I'm done, I float the cup in the new water for 15-20 mins to acclimate him.

I always do. I have a strainer just for water changes and I dump out all the water and gravel every time.

thanks for that :D

ill have to see if i can find a suitable cup then as the places i get the from give them you in bags.

looks like i will be shopping if my heater arrives tomorrow
