Guys, i am in the process of upgrading my current tank to a new one.

Dims = 5' x2' x2' - 566 Litres if my maths are correct - containing LR along with the usual zoo's, leathers, ag's etc etc.

I know there are some who beleive you can over skim your tank and with this in mind i need to seek further advice.

I am looking to have some of the Reefresh20 in the sump along with Mircal Mud, however i am in the process of looking at a decent skimmer, one that will last the tank and be able to handle an increase in live stock if necessary. The actual fish content will not be heavy in load, but i would like the skimmer to be able to handle the stock, if it were to increase. My choices so far are as follows:

APF600 or the AP701. Both are within the price bracket, but before i go parting with my cash, does anyone have any suggestions as to which one to get?

We are quite close to purchasing one so any advice would really help out before i part with my well earnt wonga.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Do you think the apf600 is suitable for a tank for 556 litres? I know they always say go for the biggest you can afford, but within reason surely?

hey,

Its really all about how much the tank would be stocked.

Apf600 is rated at 700 litres lightly stocked then yeah its gona skim nicely, but on a heavy stock system it may drop to about 500-450 litres that its capable of, so then it still falls in your system specs,

I will just be using the apf on a 350 litres system so i can stock it full capacity and my skimmer will still have alot to work with where on ur system it will just work a bit harder, dont know what the price diffs is ?

Count me among those that believe the practical cannot overskim... If you're buying off the shelf and can still reasonably fit your skimmer in a sump under the tank, it cannot be too big :)

Thanks guys,

i think i am turning my head around the fact that the bigger the skimmer you can afford the better. Going to have a good look at the ap701, it is twice the price of the apf600, but i shall have a look all the same. Goes without saying, if your spending this amount of your hard earnt spondoolicks on coral, live rock, fish and other hardware, the skimmer is not of those items you skim on. No pun intended :hyper:

Also i promise to post some pics of the new setup as it comes along. Having already bought 2 Hydor Koralia's 5 for a nice price for the flow, other items are sure to follow. Good thing im good mates with my bank manager.....
