Hey everyone,

So i bought a 75 gallon the other day, and its been a nightmare. First got it home and noticed the stand had a piece missing in the bottom corner and so took it back to Big Als then got new stand brought it home, started filling aquarium and the unthinkable happened. IT LEAKED. Water came out from under the black seams in the corner. So,needless to say, took it back and they gave me a new one.(I should hope so)
Anyway, all set up now and now i am paranoid of anything happening, to the point of maybe taking it back. I live in a condo building (concrete)and don't need a stand or aquarium breaking.
So, filled up new aquarium about half way and left it so i could do some planting. Anyway, the wood stand keeps creaking (every few minutes), not loud but noticeable. I put a leveler on the aquarium and its perfect. Is it normal for the wood to creak for a while? With my luck and this tank, the stand will give way.

Appreciate any opinions, thanks so much

usually those stands are built to hold heavy things, think about it. its like 8 pounds per gallon of water so they are pretty tough. you also have to keep in mind that you might just have bad luck. stuff happens and if it falls, that sucks, maybe you'll get your money back or maybe you won't

I have not heard of a creaking stand before, If it is the correct stant for your aquarium made by the same company then it should quite easily hold the weight.
Very strange

Glad you got it sorted, but the above doesnt seem like 75 gals? Are you sure those measurements are right? :)

Length: 48 Width: 18 Height: 12

Measurement:

Volume in litres: 169.90108
Volume in imperial gallons: 37.377864
Volume in US gallons: 44.888001

Check that your home insurance policy covers you for escape of water... just in case.

Yep great idea, called insurance company today and they cover any water damage by an aquarium, just hoping that never happens.

Creaking means movement. If your stand is solid, real, wood it could be adjusting to the new conditions . If, as is more likely, it is man made board that doesn't need to aclimatise and hence the movement must be coming from the joints which would worry me. Suggest taking it back and getting another (assuming you did the joints up tight)

Its man made oak stand, so i didn't have to do anything to it when i bought it as its nailed or whatever together already. So maybe adjusting to the weight of the water i add every day?

I've never heard any of my stands creaking, i would be very tempted to return it or at least speak to them bout it

Nash - I would take it back then as something isn't right - man mad board (veneered with oak in your case I assume) does not need to expand / contract so the joints must be suspect.

So finally got a picture of my cabinet. The creaking has stopped, but did go back to Big Al's and they said it is perfectly fine. I sure hope so.
