New tank problems

I have recently bought an tank and after about 10 days introduced my fist fish in it (5 Tiger Barbs abd 3 platy). After 3 days I noticed fungus growing on one of the Platy and subsequently bought some treatment. I was however too late to save him. After the coarse of the treatment another one of the Platy died. There were no symptoms and he didnt appear to have any white spots of fungus on him. All of the tiger barbs appear fine. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to find out what is wrong and whether I should add another Platy to the tank as there is only one left as he could be 'lonely' and get stressed.
Any advice would be apprechiated as would any suggestions on what my next fish should be.

i don't think ur tank would have been cycled at all after 10 days sorry

8 fish is too much a strain on the bioload
