I'll soon be getting my new tank, and was wondering if I could simply move my filter media (from my old tank) and put it in my new one? The fish will have to go in the new tank asap though, will this cause a mini cycle?

Thanks

Assuming water chemistry between old/new tanks is similar, yes, moving live media from one filter to another is fine. Do remember if media gets dry, or trapped in an oxygen-poor environment, it will die. Likewise, it can only go a certain amount of time (a few days?) without fish or at least some source of ammonia.

Cheers, Neale

The water will be the same type I use in the current one and the media will be transfered in water from the old tank so it wont be out of water. The fish will be added once the water gets to the right temp :good:

move the media over, and use as much water from the old tank as possible. shouldnt be a problem. top up the rest with conditioned tap water and use some cycle/ stress zyme just for good measure.

the current tank is only 54l so that will all be going in the new tank. I use spring water, had problems with tap in the past.

Cheers for the replies :good:
