I have a new 32litre tank with Neons, Clown Loach, Small Cat, 2 Swordtails.

Can load music from a movie, or sudden bangs from the drawers (tank sits on the end of 4 metre kitchen bench)??

Was just wondering if noise can effect the tank?

thanks heaps.

What a wonderful site too.

Happy New Year !!!

Yes noise can really upset the fish, like slamming doors, the noise from speakers etc, and if you have it on something where you are constanly opening and shutting drawers then it's certainly not the best place. The ideal place is away from radiators, televisions, speakers ,and south facing windows and not near to doors but not somewhere were it is totally isolated either as you want the fish to get to know you and if your like me i would rather watch my tank than the crap on the telly.

Thanks Paul for the reply.......

I have to admit that the tank is about 8 meters away from the TV and speakers...but we have large open living..........
Only concern is that we watch movies on projector often.........

Ummmmm is this still ideal place??

Noise can startle them, but I believe they become acclimated to this. I know breeders who tap on the tank before feeding, most people flip when you tap on the tank, the sound startles the fish. If you do this before feeding they associate the tapping with food. When they get sold, what's the first thing a kid does to a tank at the lfs or at home but tap on it. The fish don't spazz, they come to the top front looking for food.

I used to play in a really loud metal band many years ago, we would practice at the drummer's house. Our drummer also bred oscars, the noise didn't affect them at all. It's generally accepted that a spawning fish is a happy fish. The fish he sold were way beyond tapping on the tank, or a television sound system.

Thanks for the speedy replies..............I might leave them where they are and see how they go.........

Funny thing is that when I approach them, they quickly hurry to the fron tof the tank.....
Except for the Clown which is constantly hiding in the log and only seems to come out at night for a quick night time dip !!!

ya try it where it is right now and your clown loach will usually hide :p BTW clown loaches get pretty big I'd reccomend getting a large tank before he gets stunted... also most fish do rush the glass because the reconize you as "The FOOD GIVER" don't worry just one little perk of being a fish owner... some always pays attention to you ;)

I live in Herts, England, right near where the oil depot exploded last year - biggest bang in peacetime europe - fishes only complaint was,due to the cordon, they not been fed for 3 days

Seriously though they don't seem too bothered by regular stereo/tv or glass banging assaults by visiting toddlers! - probably wouldnt put stereo right on them though- find out what music they in to? :fun:
