Hi all im new

I have purchased a new smallish tank to get me going until i get more and more used to it and then purchase a larger tank.

Anyway my tank has been filled with water and pump has been going for over 5 days, ive added the correct chemicals so when fish are introduced all is ok.. The water is also at the correct temp (28)

Now is there anything else i need to do ??

I would like to test the tank out with 1 or 2 fish or maybe a few frog fish / craps... Will this cause any probs.

Please help guys.

Cheers :D

Hi welcome to fish keeping :)

What size tank is it?

The tank will need to be cycled, either with really tuff fish at the risk of the fish, or before you put fish in. There are lots of great articles in here on how to cycle a tank.

Good luck with your new aquarium watch out tho it is very addictive

you'd be best having a read of the pinned sections on cycling.

you could try introducing something like a couple of danios or something but it really depends on the size of your tank, I might be wrong but I wouldnt imagine your tank would be big enough for them though, although they are only small they zip about like mad and need a long tank to give them the space....how big is your tank?

As for frogs....I dont know how hardy they are.

If you want my opinion is wait at least another week and a half and in the meantime invest in a water test kit.

After that time post your water stats on and Im sure everybody will be happy to advise you on where to go from there once we know tank size etc.

Good luck and remember, 'the tallest trees grow in the garden of patience'

i've kept frogs before, they are pretty cool pets, but they definetly are not hardy, they die for no apparent reason. as for the crabs, they are really cool also, i have only one red clawed crab, but she seems happy as anything, fairly hardy, but again i wouldnt' suggest them for a tank cycle, better off with a guppy or something!
good luck!

I'd be very cautious with crabs. You might end up with a few very nipped fins and a few mystery dissapearing fish (if they are small). Crabs are generally better in tanks with large and fast fish.
