I currently have an external filter running on my 55g tank, which used to have a Fluval 4+ internal filter. When I changed filter, I took the media from the Fluval and put it inside the cannister filter to keep all the bacteria. It has been in there for about a month now.
I am picking up a new Juwel tank today (its a Delta 100 which is about 40g) which has its own Juwel filter, and a fluval 304 external filter. if I take the media out of my current cannister (from the old fluval 4+) and put it in the new fluval 304, do I need to cycle the new tank??

Even if you change the media into a new tank, it still needs to be cycled to make sure that there is enough of the beneficial bacteria that it will work on its own. The good thing about this is that it wont take as long to cycle.

You can also always add some flake food in the tank or other type of foods which will result in the aid of the bacteria to grow quicker. It's like having fishes but without the worries of harming the fellas. I did my tanks like that..works a treat.

Just add a few flakes and increase the ammount after a few days, you will get a spyke which is normal in a cycle, after that it's pretty much done really. :)
