I assume you mean that after waiting 5 mins like the API kit tells you to, you got 2ppm then?

If so, no, dont add any more ammonia yet, when you getting a reading of around .25 or .50 ppm then top it back up to 5ppm and wait for it to drop.

yep both rested for 5 mins, they were one color then changed

so my tank is converting the ammonia

yep, since you had fish in there to start with, they have already started to cycle the tank for you, hence why you have seen a drop over two days.

dont worry about it, its just one of those things. Atleast you are asking for advice now, and did'nt go straight out and buy more fish :good:

keep reading the fishless guide lol, my husband read it yesterday and didn't have a clue  will keep you posted

took me a few attempt at reading it before I understood it too!

Once I got the hang of it, cycling was smooth and easy :)

i get the ammonia part its the nitrite part, why do we have to wait before it gets to zero every 12 hours aswell , is high quantaties bad for fish

yes nitrite is just as harmful as ammonia

both are turned into nitrate, which is only harmful in very high concentrations (like 500ppm)

i get it now lol, i get rid of nitrate by doing water changes weekly

perfect thank you

Morning :)

done my water test today and after 5 mins i got

Ammonia 0.50ppm

Nitrite 1.0ppm

so i've added more Ammonia and will test tomorrow

have you checked about an hour after adding ammonia to make sure you're at 5ppm? Always best to do that to make sure

Hey Susan?
All is quiet on the thread how are your results going?
