Hi,

I have a new tandanus and I know that they like to chomp and eat their way through most things. I was wondering if they are likely to eat other catfish though. I have some small bristle noses in the tank and was concerned about their safety. Will they survive VS tandanus?

it depends on what species of Tandanus you have and how big it is. They will eat most things that fit in their mouth, however they only have small mouths. Big Tandanus (say 12inches long) will eat baby bristlenose if they can catch them. But if the b/nose are bigger than 2inches they should be fine with a catfish that size.

a 3inch tandanus won't be a problem for 1inch bristlenose. There's nothing to worry about there.

out of curiosity, how big is your tank and do you know what species of Tandanus you have? I ask because the most commonly available Tandanus catfish is Tandanus tandanus, which grows to a couple of feet long. They take a bit of time to get this big but they can get rather large.

It is a T. tandanus and it currently lives in a 3 x 1.5 foot tank. It will be moved to a 4 x 4 foot tank, sharing with turtles, when it gets bigger.
