Hi, I have a few saltwater tanks set up but this ones got me stumped.
90 gallon w/7 yellowtail blue damsel fish.
aragonite substrate
wet dry filter
78 degrees
tank cycling and is 1 month old
1 fluorescent 48" bulb 12hr timer
artificial corals and decorations.

black algae growing on substrate and decorations. I cleaned everyhting off 3 days ago and it is back.

anyone have any suggestions? :(

Try a clean up crew. 1 per 1 or 2 gallon.

PS, i thought Nav "never misses posts" ??? :p

I dont, I just got in from work! ;)

As the tank is only 1 month old its not unusual to see algae blooms whilst thewater balances itself out. You dont mention that you have any liverock so this makes me suspect you have a nitrate issue as a wet dry filter cannot perform as well as liverock.

Cut back on feeding and continue to monitor the water peramters.

As a last comment, I ntice the tank is still cycling? yet there are fish in it? its a very poor way to cycle a tank and completely unessary to do a cycle in such a manner these days. a simple frozen prawn does the same job and a batch of liverock cycles the tank immediately. :*)
