Got a new juvenile sailfin today he i in my 65ltr untill he grows a bit, then in my 126 litr after, when he grows after that he is being sold-
Cool Huh? :p

Sorry, but no. Not cool.

Buying fish that you know will outgrow your tank is irresponsible and I very much doubt that you will be able to give away a large sailfin let alone SELL it.

Well funnily enough it is a while away yet, he is only a juvenile at the moment, like i said when he grows out of the big one i will give it away so :p

I think what SirMinion means is that you may find it difficult to find someone who wants him. The world is full of shops selling juvenile plecs and people buying them, it is not equally full of people with tanks big enough to house adult plecs. The result is that adult plecs are a bit of a drug on the market, hundreds of people trying to get rid of them, not many people who want to take one in. If you have a guaranteed good home for him, then of course that is a totally different matter.

Well a fish shop said to me they will take unwanted fish from me however will not pay for them,
I don't really mind if i get money or not but at the moment he is happy so that's all that really matters to me :hyper:
Suzie takes every pleco going so i can rely on her

sorry lil dude i've gotta say i agree. you've got a big tank sitting around doing nothing, beg your mum to let you set that up instead of your biggest tank

Thats like your parents throwing you out when your 10 because your too big.
Not really like that it's like me moving out and going to a mansion.
And all the while my plec is small he is ok, he is 1 and a half inches FGS.
If he was 18" and in a 65Ltr then that would be wrong but he is about the same size as the fry.
It's not like i don't have plans for him because i do, When he is 3" he goes into my 126Ltr then when he is 7" I am going to sell him on here or give him back to my lfs.

why didn't you just get a plec that your could keep forever in your tank at full size? rather than one you know you're going to have to get rid of?

do you buy kittens and give them back to the shop when they're full grown too?

Your right. If there's a problem down the line, I'll take him.
Could never see a good gibbi go begging.

lol could always rely on Suzie even if she didn't know i was!
But Bowzer that was a good point just i really like sailfin's and have never kept them.
I know perhaps you guys don't think it's fair but 60Litres for a 1&half" Pleco covered in algae is heaven as far as i'm concerend

the problem is that they grow quick in their normal environment or a suitable one... you'll find that is growth rate will be slowed in a small tank - its called stunting and has serious effects on the fish in the long term.

It would be better to put it in the 127l now to allow it to grow better - then at 5-6" (that'll be in about 4/5 months if all is well) rehome it.

SuzieQPlecMama - Its great that you will rehome them - but your going to have a lot of problems yourself in the long run unless you are planning a few 6x2x2 tanks (say one per sailfin).

Oh no problem there, we have an outdoor barn just waiting to be filled with plec houses :)

Suzie, bless your soul for taking in plecs.

Animation, I gotta agree with eveyone else, please don't do it again, or tell us about it. You have been around long enough to know fish rules and that this is not healthy for the sailfin. Would be like me putting one of my rays in a ten gallon tank.
Sorry for being so harsh, but it bugs me
