New Platys Mum

No problem I still have two left, I will leave them to their own devices and see what happens - will keep you posted!

if your tank has plenty of hiding places fry will find somewhere to hide. I've found that platy fry are good hiders - it's the guppy fry that are rubbish at keeping hidden. They practicly swim up to the adult fish and ask to be eaten!

I often find platy fry under my bogwood or stones and sometimes in my filter box. There is one in my tank at present that looks about 3 weeks old maybe. Against all the odds it has survived everything and keeps itself well hidden.

If you can get your hands on some java moss (or have some already) tie or glue it to some bogwood. Fry will find it a good hiding place aswell as a good place to feed without breaking cover.

I'm still gutted for you but I'm hoping for better luck with the other two

Best of luck
Akasha :)

well down

I am starting to wonder whether these fish have been overfed by the previous owner and aren't pregnant?? the birthing tube that i can see is a white sticky out bit and poo comes out aswell?? Sorry if I sound dumb but this is all new to me, I will try and take more photo's tonight.

I have added an up to date photo of the two platies on Journal and Photographs Topic.

it sounds like the birthing tube to me. It's more obvious with platies than guppies I think. I also think the squaring off is more obvious - my guppy has just had 50+ fry tonight and there was no sign of a birthing tube at all or squaring off

Sounds weird but the tube on the larger platys looks like it is more open today?? Still no fry! I know I am impatient!!

These are the latest pics of my 2 pregnant platies, how much longer do you think I will have to wait until I see little fry??

I was about to ask if you had fry yet as they are huge! They must be dropping soon!

the one in the first picture is very close. Looks like she'll be dropping very soon. It's difficult for me to tell with the 2nd one in the position she's in. I tell by their flat bellies

Hi No Sorry still no fry!! Thought I would take a couple of photo's so you can see their daily enlarging dimensions!! Must be soon fingers crossed!! :hyper:

lol Dang those mommas can hold a lot of fry!

My previous platy never got that big and only had about 30 fry each time. I bet your gonna see a full load.

Its now 19 days since the first photo I took of the massive pregnant platies and still no fry, they hide away most of the day only coming out when I feed them, both still have the white tube sticking out, very dark gravid spots, I hate to think how many fry are inside those two! I keep wondering if they really are pregnant?? :S

they're definitely pregnant! They'll just drop when they are ready to and you can pretty much guarentee it will be when your not there to see it - it's the law of sod
