I have two tanks. Both are just under 20gallons. The first tank is my jelly bean tank. I have one pair that have already paired and have bred and looks like a second pair are getting ready to do the same.

My second tank is my community tank. I have 2 silver dollars, 3 small angels, 5 tiger barbs, a plec, 4 happy widows, 4 neons (2black and 2 normal) a common plec and 7 platys (3 adult female who are pregnant, 1 male and 3 fry) which were given to me by miss penguin through this forum. Louise there is pics below for you!! they are all doing well.

My tank is maybe a bit overcrowded but i look after the water and nobody is aggressive so it is working!! Also i am waiting on a new hood as my light unit has packed up!!

Let me know what you think

The angels will eat the neons, the pleco will grow to 2', the siver dollars will grow massive, and the tiger barbs will nip your fish, especially the angels, like hell. Congrads on creating a 20 gallon community death trap!

People make mistakes, dont stone him for it!!! Runner, your tank does look like it needs some rethinking, angels are a bit tricky in a community. I totally get where you're coming from, some LFS's will tell you that you can put 50 siamese fighters in a commuity if it means making a sale. Put it down to experience, only you know whats best for YOUR fish. :)

Sorry, dude! Here's some more constructive advice. Get rid of the silver dollars, angelfish, and pleco now, and think about either getting more tiger barbs, or getting rid of them all together, as in small groups they will without a doubt nip the male guppies. They may still nip them in large groups, so I'd get rid of them. If you're wondering why I have a pleco, just know that I'm getting rid of it soon.

Yeah for real! Why is this forum so harsh! I'm not even kidding you...Man you didnt have to put it like that at all!!! That just makes a new fish keeper feel like crap and just want to give up! I had to take a couple months away from this site because of my really really negative thoughts from people here...Supposively the " Frendliest Fishforum Around "...Psssshhhh

So anyway back to the topic...I like the tanks but you are a little overstocked. Everyone does make mistakes though and there's always enough time to correct them! Good luck.

Nick

I dont have any guppies in my tank. The angelfish are tiny. Two are two inchs fin tip to fin tip and the other is only 4inchs. The barbs are happy and have never caused anybother in my tank at all!! the silver dollars are the only fish that are massive and cause a problem. The plec moves from tank to tank every so often and will be traded once it gets too big!

Thanks

Thanks mate. The plec will be traded once it grows to big as i always do!! The barbs have never ever bothered any of the fish in my tank. I have watched for that since i bought them but they keep to them selves. I was weary about buying them so have kept a close eye on them. Yes the silver dollars are large but i am keeping them.

Is everybody as big an arse on this site as this dude!!

Nice tank looks calming and a nice set up. Of course the tank will be overstocked (as you have read in harsh ways) However the amount of time the fish will take to grow to that size will surely allow you to get better accomadation. If the fish are happy and fine then I cannot see a huge issue if they are happy and will receive larger tanks soon so of course they aren't cramped I made a similiar mistake however the fish were so small they were happy and I got a new tank which was the right size and they were fine. Each mistake brings you closer to expertise (unless your mind leaks information like myself ) ;) nice tank love the rock set up

Thanks mate i apprecitate what you say!! I'm just learning and will rehome some of the fish to make it better. all my fish are tiny except the dollars!!

Cheers

yes your tanks are overstocked, but you already knew that when you posted the pictures.I like the basic layout,i think it looks very pretty.

We all have to start somewhere and im sure education will do far better than jumping down yet another newbies throat :grr: wouldnt it be better to tell people what he problems are and why instead of just shouting at them???

Nick makes a very good point there. Bashing people over the head and jumping on them when they have made mistakes only discourages them and makes them inclined not to bother comming back meaning they potentially miss out on the help and the support that they can be offered by less judgemental members of this forum. People learn as they go along and we should all be willing to help them with that without flaming them.

Having met Freerunner I can say I am confident that he geniunely cares about his fish and does have their best interests at heart and that counts for a heck of a lot. There are a lot of folk who would keep all those fish [and more] and not even bother doing regular water changes. What's more they wouldn't care either. It's these people that deserve our criticims, not those folk that come here looking for help and advice with their fishes best interests at heart.

I've got to say for my part I feel a touch guilty as I have indavertently contributed to your tank being overstocked by giving you the platys [one of the reasons I was so keen to impress on you just how much they reproduce was so you would avoid that problem in the future] but as pointed out by others, all the fish are relatively small and won't cause any immediate problems so long as you keep on top of your water changes [which know you will as you've already said in your first post you look after your water, another point some seem to have missed] then I think you'll be just fine. Quite aside from anything else, I wouldn't have let you have the platys if I wasn't convinced you were a geniunely good bloke.

It's a real shame you've been jumped on in this way but please rest assured that not everyone on forums are like this. By and large most folk are quite happy to help without wading and condemming you and your tank [which as I said in my pm looks fab btw, nice work :good: ]

Yeah well I guess its over stocked but it still looks nice :good: . Maybe you can return the Angels back to the LFS get some store credit or something. Other than that it looks good.
