Hi, my dad recently passed..and he was a keen fish keeper, he had 9 tanks..and ive got the task of clearing his flat...i have saved some of the fish, but im really concerned cuz they are in an uncycled tank, as i had to rehome them quickly...is there anything i can do to make sure they stay alive?...also i need to know what type of fish they are....can anyone help?...thanks in advance...

They look like guppies from the top but maybe if you can get some pics from the side to be sure? I don't keep them myself but they prefer harder water and are prolific breeders so you may end up with more!

Hi...thanks for your response...yes i have a bio filter, lighting and a heater...,my dad has loads of stuff at his flat like plants ect for the tank...that i still need to bring back. Here is a better pic i think...

If you can transfer over any of the wet gravel from an existing established tank off your Dad’s, that would definitely help your new tank to get cycled quickly. Also bring over an existing filter and keep all of the filter floss damp, along with the substrate/gravel, keep all of it wet. If the filter box material dries up or the gravel becomes dry, you’ll lose any beneficial bacteria living in those locations. My condolences for your loss. It is hard to think sometimes while grieving. I hope this helps you and your Dad’s fish.

As you have moved the bio-filter over you should already have beneficial bacteria in the tank. This means that the tank will be cycled without much action from you.
Try to change 50% of the water each week, maybe twice a week initially, If possible. Use a syphon or hose to drain half the water outside, to a drain or into a bucket. New water needs to be dechlorinated (you may have a bottle - follow the dosing instructions on the bottle) and the temperature needs to be the same as in the tank (you can check with a thermometer or with your hand).
3 fish in the photos look like they might be males but the yellow tailed one could be a colourful female. The anal fin under the belly is long and pointy in males and fan shaped in females. With guppies, excessive reproduction can be an issue so it will be good to check.
Over-feeding is extremely easy to do with fish. It causes water pollution. Imagine that the fish's stomach is the same size as its eye and feed accordingly. You might feed once a day, 4 or 5 days a week.
