My youngest female mollie gave birth for the first time last night
I managed to get 5 fry one of whom did not make it and died this morning.

The mother looked fine this morning but tonight when coming home i found her head down in the corner of the tank at first i thought she was dead but her fins were still moving, I have managed to remove enough rocks and stuff to get to her and caught her way too easily and have put her in a 2nd breeder net i have. She is pretty stationary there too and when she tries to swim its pretty much with no coordination.

All other fish i have seen acting like this die pretty quickly.I hope she can recover but i cant think of anything else i can do. I guess perhaps something went wrong during birth  .

It's probably stress. I'd suggest moving her back to the tank if the otehr fish are peaceful and won't bother her. Small spaces really stress fish out.

Keep the water clean, watch for fungus and/or ich,and I would put her back in the main tank as long as she won't be bothered.

My mollies stress out really bad after having babies, too. Just keep an eye out for any disease outbreaks and keep the fish from picking on her, keep the water good and clean, and add a touch extra salt and she should recover. :)

Hi!
How long have you had your tank up and running? Anyone else having trouble? How long since you last fish did this? Maybe we can find some answers for you.

ALASKA

Here's hoping she pulls through!

Thanks guys she is still with us but looks no better, The tank has been up and running for around 5 months, the last fish to have any problems was around two months after the tank was setup since then everything seems very settled.

Im reluctant to put her back in the main tank as two fish previously who have gotten sick have been very badly pecked and lost thier fins.

The rest of the community tank is comprised of mollies swordtails , 2 tiger barbs and some neons and a couple of cories. They all look fine. Because of the cory's im reluctant to add salt.

I do have a small tank with around 50 mollie fry approx 1 month old that she could go into but im reluctant to add salt or upset the setup of this tank
