so hard water and high ph is ok for mollies/platies, but neons and black fins are soft water fish that like more neutral to acidic waters if memory serves me correct... Also, one other thing to point out, since those tetras are schooling/shoaling fish, they should be kept in groups of more than 5
As I said I am a complete beginner and was not given this information when I bought them, maybe now get a few more.

Fish shops rarely give good advice I'm afraid, they are more interested in making a sale. But now you've found the forum, we can help you with the poor advice you've had so far :)
 
Well at least we don't say things like keeping one or two of a shoaling species is good, or throwing meds at a tank is the best way to treat an unknown disease ;)
