hi im new to this hobby only had my tank for a few months but im still getting used to things but what i would do is find them dead fish and get them out as dead fish raises ammonia and then a big water change 50% to get it down and wait and keep testing till ammonia drops to 0 then test for nitrite make sure thats ok then start to add fish.

almost forgot :hi: to TFF

:hi:

yeah get the dead ones out, if there are any fish still in there then you need to do a big water change. If not then ammonia will come down over time and then you can do the water change to get rid of the nitrates. Btw how long ago where the extenals cleaned?

well i had the new set up running for a week now and i just transfer my fish from the small one....that was one of my mistakes.. is there any other way that i can let the fish decompose in there....cause it took me a couple of hours just to put the rocks in there.

That is a real shame, you have just learnt one of the basic rules of fish keeping - and in particular Marine - never, ever put anythinng in your tank unless you know all about what is going to happen :look:

The fish will decompose and add to the ammonia spike, the ammonia will turn to nitrite which in turn will become Nitrate - when you have had a nitrate spike do a lareg water change, wait 24 hours and test - lets us know your results and we will help :good:

As for how long - well it depends on your live rock, was it cured, was it out of water long?

Why are you running two externals?

And lastly, we would love to hear your plans

Seffie x , thanks for the reply

WEll i am running 2 externals cause i had one lying around and i asked if i would be able to connected and the fish store told me that there will be no problem, and will be good in the end. the live rock i took 40 pounds from my previous tank and bought another 40 pounds from the store, and 10 pounds of dried rock... I had a 40 gallon tank set up previous and i didnt have no problems and i introduced the fish after a week.... i learned my lesson with this one that i would have to take longer..

Also, any suggestions om how to clear cloudy water? it was clear a couple of days ago now it started back up

thanks

Try putting some filter wool in one of your externals - do you know what is causing it?

thanks for the reply,

i did that the water cleared up now, but there is some white stuff on the inside of my glass now, looks like a mini explosion, white dots, ( almost like dust on the inside of the glass) does anyone know what that is?

am not sure, just looks like a giant dust explosion on my glass

i got some Nassarius Snails in there and they seem to be fine, my ammonia is still high 8.0mg/l....and the nitrate is at 20mg/l......been running the tank now for 2 weeks now.....should i change most of the water out now or still wait till it cycles more?
