Hi all, Jason here.

First time on this forum.

I bought a second hand tank off a friend and have set this up. He also had fish, which I kept in a small cube tank for a while until the big tank was ready. It's a Fluva Vicenza 180 litre. The fish are, I think:

2 Rasbola
3 White Skirt Tetra
4 Rosy Tetra
2 Black Widow Tetra
2 Silver Dollars
and
2 Amano Shrimp

I've been reading on line that the tank isn't big enough for the Silver Dollars. Is this correct please, as I have nowhere else for them to go? Would have liked to have a few more as well, as they are timid at the moment and hide most of the time.

In about a month's time, when things settle down, I'll be looking to get some more fish, including fish that clean the tank, as well as possibly snails and more shrimp. Bearing in mind what I already have, does anybody have any suggestions on what to get please?

If I'm doing anything wrong, let me know.

Cheers all.

Jas

Welcome in! The silver dollars can get quite big, I've seen some between 5-7" (12-18cm). I had them a while back in a 75 gallon (280L) and felt they were a bit cramped with just 2 of them and they can grow pretty fast. I'd probably start looking for plans to rehome them so that it doesnt creep up on you, but I'm also not an expert on them. Tank is super cute though!

Hello and welcome 🙂

I think one of the first things you’ll be asked by those that ‘know’ is what your water parameters are, including hardness. Then they will know if the fish you have are suitable for the water they are in and what sort of fish to look at adding in the future.

Is a well respected website that will give water and space needs on a species by species level, and then you can come back here and double check the advice 🙂

Thanks for that. Will have to scout around and see if anybody can take them. Our local pet shop seem to know their stuff, so can ask them.

Cheers.

Thanks for that. Tested the water earlier and all seems fine. Will check the website.

Cheers. Jas

Your LFS is a great place to start - if they can't take them, ours is great about helping find someone who can. And we joined the local Fish Association/ group - there's ALWAYS someone willing to have a few extra fish! I think between a good LFS, this forum, and a fish association/society, you can do anything- all 3 are invaluable.

They are big, healthy fish, so someone will want them. Will check out the options.
Cheers.

Welcome. You can list them for sale or free on the marketplace here but there’s not a lot of activity in that part of the site.
You can always try listing them on:
aquarist—classifieds.co.uk
You may even get a few quid for them. Theres livestock and equipment sections and a search by county option to keep up with localish deals.
This place here, seriouslyfish.com and aquarist-classifieds.co.uk should be at the top of any U.K. based fish freaks tab list imho.
