New Marine Tank

strange their out now!! maybe its because they are small chromis, not even an inch long.

Mine are only tiny too. I can't wait till they are bigger than the damsel... then they can kick the crap out of him instead!

strange seam to have a massive out burst of brown algae on my coral sand on the bottom of tank, looks horrible and dulls the tank down a hell of a lot!

Most likely cyanobacteria. Check your nitrate and phosphate levels too.

been doing a lot of looking on the net about brown algae and apparantly its part of the natural process??
still looks horrible though

either diatoms or cyanobacteria. Do you have any cleanup crew in there?

not as of yet,i do need to double the amount of live rock in the tank aswell. their is 2 crabs,2 snails and 2 tiny black star fish that have come free with the rock that i have bought. what are your recommendations on a clean up crew?

The backbone of my crew has traditionally consisted of Cerith, Nassarius, Trochus, and Margarita snails. Not a fan of astrea cause they have trouble righting themselves, and Turbos bulldoze too often for my tastes

ok,i shall look at those in my lfs when i go their this weekend.
just been looking at the photos of ur 45g tank, very nice. that powerhead that is stuck to the front of the tank, what r they called? make and spec.
cheers

I think Ski has the Seio M820. Its mentioned in one of his posts on the year 2 tank log.

HTH.

yep found them on a google search, their £18 each, not bad, they do have a nice look about them,as powerheads go that is
are they one of the better power heads that you can get?

Yup Seio are a good make as are Tunze.

hmm think i prefer the seizo ones,i like the idea of being able to control the amount of flow and to be able to put them in any direction

I used to use Seio pumps as my wallet cringed when I looked at the cost of the Tunzes. I have just recently however switched and now run one Seio M820 and one Hydor Koralia 3 which I've yet to document. Anyways, the Hydor Koralia is IMO a fantastic pump, much better than the Seios, and on-par with the Tunzes as far as flowrate produced versus electricity used. Their combination magnetic/suction system for holding the powerhead to the glass is phenomenal and the pump orientation is very adjustable. The Hydors are new, so nobody can realliy speak for their longevity yet, but from an engineering, maintenance, and efficiency standpoint, their design is superb. I highly reccomend them at this point.

I was planning on getting one next week, so I'm glad of the review Ski. Been looking at them for a while now the Koralias, because my current pump uses 70w whereas the Korlia is tiny at about 6-8w if memory serves me correct.
