New Marine Tank - What To Add First?

woah... too early for shrimp IMO, i would get the shrimp after the fish, and they arent really considered CUC.... Oh well, make sure you feed them and keep quality VERY stable.

Laura..for many there is an urgency to add corals to their tank. They just HAVE TO HAVE a reef right away. Unfortunately, there IS a learning curve here. Corals are expensive and when they die, they can release toxins into your tank.

Take your time. Get a hang of running your tank. I would add your cleanup crew first...see how they do...then consider adding your fish and find out how you do with managing your nitrates. If you REALLY must put something in, check out some mushrooms or zoanthids, but, take your time. SH

Thanks for the input, yeah I want to add corals eventually, but I know how long the process is, so I'm in no hurry to add any for a while yet!

I use the drip method to acclimatise my new snails and shrimps - over about 2hours, they all doing fine! And there is plenty for them to eat, as a lot of brown algae stuff in tank!!
They doing a really good job though!

So, yeah not going to rush, that way I get longer to enjoy adding new things to my tank!!

the shrimp you have arent algae eaters, feed them regular fish food, flakes, frozen etc. Maybe once every other day, a little here and there.

Very exciting.... got my first fish yesterday!

Got 2 clownfish! they're settling in well, and are absolutely gorgeous!

I'll post a pic when I get a good one!

The LFS should have it...usually they come in frozen cubes. Mysis shrimp.

Ok brill, I'll get some when I next go!

Next question - any idea what corals to add to my tank? I only have live rock, which is a bit boring for the clownfish!! Was thinking soft corals, but any suggestions? Thanks!

What sort of reef do you want, what sort of flow in the tank do you have and what sot of lighting do you have? These are the main factors to decide what corals to have.
