Hi everyone and thanks for looking. Basically I'm after a new tank setup and just wanted some tank size recommendations. I would like to keep a pacific blue tang, a clown fish, a shrimp/lobster and a long spined sea urchin. Some maybe's for later include a seahorse, a cucumber and maybe a starfish. What’s the minimum sized tank that would suit this? Preferably in litre's as Gallons don't have a universal value!!!

Thanks guy's and girls :good:

i would say something like a 350 l to 400 l is what you should be looking at. seahorses kinda need a seperate tamk with nothing else in. any more questions fire em at us lol!

No way! I really thought seahorses were happy to live with other fish  oh well, don't really want to stress him/her out if I got one. I struggle along with fish only living with a few critters. 400l sounds a bit big for a 1 bed flat -_-

Thanks for the advice though!

200l tanks are pretty good to get things started - big enough to give you some stability, but not so big they cost a fortune.

However, I wouldn't recommend a tang in that size of tank, they really need lots of swimming room.
And I would definately stick to shrimps - e.g. blood/camel/cleaner - rather than getting a lobster.

You can have a nice selection of smaller fish in a tank that size as well.
For example a pair of clowns, a nice goby/blenny, chromis, dwarf angel, gramma, dottyback, a wrasse (smaller species only), firefish and many more.

Well, slowly learning more and more here! If anyone has the time though there's a site I've found selling "complete" marine kits. Any look good and what additional kit would be needed i.e powerheads? http://www.rocketaquatics.co.uk/index.php?cPath=72_134

Some have T5 lighting as standard, which I like the sound of. But are the other bits any good? I'm the sort of person who would rather start afresh than slowly upgrade so it would need to be readily suited for live rock/fish and I would suspect coral.

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for any help :fun:

id say the med sea max is the best but build your tank your self dont be lazy you will learn tons more instead "this is the powerheads we recommend for this tank" choose your livestock and cater around them! there isnt a perfect reef ready tank out there too many variables, lighting flowrate acceptable nitrate levels, calcium etc etc.

pacific blue tang wont fit in a RSM, refer to my display pic :) Its fine for clowns and stuff though, not too sure about the urchin.

Ric hit it spot on.

Don't know about the pacific blue tang, but they will need at least 75 gallons at minimum, don't know what that is in litres though. sorry. maybe someone can calculate it?

Ha ha, didn't think you was too impressed by the Red Sea when I first saw that.

Well, if home built is the way forward then expect the next few months to be full of "what do you think of...", "is x better than y, and why?"!! posts from myself

And you'll only have yourselves to blame :hey:
