Hi all.
I am planning to move my 100 litre tropical tank from a wall where it catches the summer morning sun to the dividing area of my open living room, where it shouldn't get any sun at all.
I intend to keep as much of the old water and was planning to keep the fish in the tank with about 6" of water as I move it.
Does this sound feasible?
I would also appreciate recommend a good cleaning instrument for the stubborn green algae on the glass.
All advice gratefully received.
Thank you x
Present position of tank

Intended position (pardon mess)

100L of water weighs 100kg. Is 6" of water about 1/3 the height of the tank? If so, that will be about 30kg. I wouldn't attempt to lift a tank up with that much water in it, it might break.

I use a kitchen sponge. It's only been used in the tank amd nothing else. Works great. $1 @ piece

Wow! Bang on! I didn't even consider it breaking!! Thanks 😊
Would you say it would be best to get the fish and substrate out then? Just didn't want to over stress them x

I'd take as much water out as possible, leave the substrate in, take the fish out. They'd be more stressed in the tank with water sloshing around.
All the best with the move.

100L is about 26 USG

I moved my 29 USG tank across a room by draining most of the water, left the fish in...then, with the help of another person, carefully lifted the tank onto a rolling cart....moved the stand, wheeled the tank up next to it, and carefully replaced on the stand

You would be able to do the same

The danger comes from lifting a tank and carrying it with water in. The water sloshes round. Tank seams are designed to be strong when stationary, they are not designed to cope with the twisting movements caused by sloshing water and the seam can fail once the tank is refilled. If you can lift the tank onto a board larger than the tank and carry it on the board, or SlapHppy's rolling cart, then yes you can leave a bit of water in the tank. But if you'll be lifting the tank on its own, net the fish into a bucket of tank water and cover it with something, anything, to stop the fish jumping out, then empty all the water before moving the tank.

Thank you, good ideas x

Welcome to TFF... :hi:
And good luck with moving the tank... 👍

I'd take out most of the tank water, water your lovely plants with it. Replace with treated tap, or RO/Distilled water, whatever your usual process is.
