A new LFS opened up near me this week, yay! It's called Megan's Tropical Fish Emporium and I have to say that it's very nice. As you can tell by the store's name, it's a small indepentantly run place. After looking around the place, I had a nice chat with the owner.

On display included a "betta package": a 2.5 gallon tank with filter, heater, and your choices of the betta, decor, and some gravel... all for $39. Plus she has some gorgeous DTs and CTs there to pick from. I complimented her on that nice package deal and she was very happy that I noticed and emphatically stated she didn't want her stores to be like the ones that sold betta bowls.

The saltwater side of the store is not quite up and running yet... just some live rock and shrimp. This store's attitude is tops. For those around Houston, TX, the place is on I45 South, exit Fuqua, just 2 blocks east. And Megan the owner got into the business by buying out Neptune's Garden -- in case anyone remembers that store.

Also I left with 4 female platies there for my 2 males. :hey:

How nice to see a positive post about an lfs! Keep encouraging them!
:D good to hear. We also have a small lfs that just opened. Their buisness seems slow but they are very nice owners as well. A grandmother and her grandson run it. Although they dont have alot inside being a very small space, they were very promt to say they would order anything i wanted and had alot better prices on some things than the larger lfs here. In fact, their instant ocean salt was half price of the lfs, so my salt buying went all to them. They also had some very fine crushed coral. The larger lfs has crushed coral but it was alot larger chunks and i was wanting the smaller. It was also almost half the price.

That's good to hear on your side, phlawed. Affordable supplies are always great; maybe their business will perk up once the word spreads on their prices.

good to hear.
word may spread but are there enough fish owners to give them good buisness?
thats the case in most lfs

Thats awsome.. i don't have many.. I have one thats is really really close to me, but it's not that great of a LFS but it specializs in fish though.. the secound closest would be petsmart and it has a poor selection of fish.. and ehh there service isn't that great.. but actualltly a new petsmart opend up even closer which is actually alot closer it's only 15 min away now.. i havent been there we'll see.. i am not big on it.. and third closest is actually really far it's 30 min away .. and there is a few in Chi town but there 30 min away 2 or more.. proaly more since i am in the burbs.. but the one i was talking about that place is really really nice.. i loved it there.. HUGE selection of fish and all in Great shape.. and the people who work there are really really freindly and very knowledgeble.. sorry my spelling is kinda poor .. hahaha.
