Good evening all,
Up to the usual fuss of finding a problem and searching for knowledgeable folk who know more than I do. I have a 200 litre tank at the moment with an 8 year old Red Tailed Black Shark (my favourite), Dwarf Rainbowfish, Mickey Mouse Platy's, Bristlenose catfish, two other pleco's of which I don't know the breed, few tetras and finally two Angel Fish.
This is my 3rd tank, and in this one I've experimented with using a soil substrate below various grades of gravel to help the plants along. I was initially expecting the algae to get out of control or the water quality to be difficult to maintain but so far the experiment has been a resounding success. It has only been running about 6 months so far but I think I'm past the stage where I need to be concerned. The water quality seems stable, the plants are doing really well (now) and the algae growth is no worse than in any other setup I've owned.
So, that's me!
Nick
