I know you only tried to do your you best, the reason your friends tank is crystal clear will be that he / she has good filtration and as he tests the water, any early signs of problems can be dealt with. If I were you I would swap for the betta, lovely fish lots of character and very colourful. Give the other fish a good chance to get the most appropriate home they can.

see i dont know about the filtration deal because we have the same brand filters, his is just for a bigger tank...
