just introducing myself and my tanks to everyone...

My custom built 110 gal brackish setup...filtered with an emperor 400 and a penguin 350

i built this tank out of two used 55gal tanks, which i joined at the center with a welded steel flatbar frame. you can see from the above pic that this project is not finished, i still plan to build a top and cover all of the steel, plastic trim, and 2x4's with white particle board...here are pics of tank in progress...

The tank houses a small snook, a couple baby sheepshead, small fiddler crabs, a couple small hermit crabs, and some blue crabs..soon to include a spiny puffer..(yes they will outgrow the tank, and i will build a BIGGER one!)

you built all those tanks. :hyper:
thats awsum, your fish are soo cool, keep the pics coming, i would love to see your 2 oscars in a full tank shot :D

Hi ikon, welcome to the forum. Intersting project, but I have a comment on the stand the 110 is on. Now, another mod, CFC is a much greater expert then I on woodwork, but the stand looks like it should have some diagonal bracing, or sheet material on the back or similar. With that amount of water, I would be worried about the stand shearing laterally.

Awesome, i admire your DIY skill. i've been looking into making a hood for my tank but havn't been confident enough to go and actually buy the timber yet!

Love your tanks too, you like your sand and rocks dont you!

Once the frame work is boarded out it will prevent any movement from front to back/side to side but until then i would advise fixing some temporary diagonal bracings to prevent the stand from slumping forward should it take a knock, it might not seem likely to happen but accidents do occur and for the sake of cutting two bits of timber and screwing them to the frame its not worth the loss of the tank and fish.

Ikon, i see you've moved forums :hey: i also see that you have split your photo's it now looks like your large crab is in a seperate tank!! is it? or is the sheeps head still c******g itself :-(
Just wondered what you did with your Cichlid and Community tanks, surely you should show all your tanks for some more expert advice.

iona...i have since taken down the cichlid tank and sold them back to the lfs, and i have no pictures of my community tank...thanks for the input everyone

Oh wow! Pretty cool. I wish I had those same skills...I'd have a 200 gallon for my cichlids and a coffee table like that of my own! Keep sending pics. Those are just way too cool.

no it's not cool at all. i think you all need to know about the truth. all the fish in the 110g are caught by himself from the canal including the...

i don't know why you think it is cool to take fish from the wild like that.

Now I'm not in any way defending his actions, but where do you think many of our fish come from? Tropical fish trees?

That home made stand does look very flimsy for such a big tank. The sand's a bit deep in that oscar tank too.
