Cute hamster you have there :good: .

Syrian hamsters need to be handled on a regular basis (especially when young) to keep them tame and comfortable with being handled. Just remember not to take them out for handling while they are sleeping, eating or excercising, as this can make them feel grumpy or nervous etc.

I would say that in my experience, syrian hamsters are not the best animals as far as being handled goes because they do not like to stay in one place for long at all, after 20-30mins of handling they become so active that they are not easy to handle and you often end up just monitering the hamster while it scuttles around more than anything else.
Its still important though to handle them as much as you can though, and to be gentle with them, as i think a lot of the time when syrian hamsters develop a biting problem it is from the owners not handling them in the right way (like taking the hamster out for a play when it is asleep or in its nest box) etc. Getting the hamster used to being held, stroked and carried around is one the most important things to do especially while it is young :good: . You can even teach them to respond to their name and come to you by rewarding them with treats when they do like you do with a dog  .
