Hi slowleak :)

Welcome to the forum! :flowers:

If your fish are dojos they are loaches. I'm going to move your thread to the Cyprinids, Characins and Atherinids section where you might get more specific information about them.

In the meanwhile, if you are new to fishkeeping entirely, I would suggest you start a thread in the New to the Hobby section and read some of the pinned threads there. If your tank isn't cycled, you will want to learn how to care for your fish while that takes place.

thanks inchworm, i know nothing about it. i have been and will continue to read. great site btw!

no, neither one of those. it actually looks just like one of those chinese dragons, with the big head and smaller body. the name at petsmart was south american dragon dojo. now the guys are laying on there side limp at the bottom of the tank, and when they arent doing that they are strait as an arrow pointing to the sky with there whole hea out of the water. very different from the way they acted at the store.

there are a few species known as Dragon fish, you could check these,

Dragon Goby
Arrowana
Lionfish

thats him. he is a dragon goby. thanks davo86! well they both endd up on the bottom of the tank upside down. they are still alive, but to me they are dead. its pretty sad that stores will sell you fish and not even tell you about cycling the tank and such. i will be bringing them both back today.

thanks again guys for all the help, this is a great site!

You may want to ask the store if the fish were being kept in brackish water, that could be an explanation for their behaviour in your Freshwater tank

i specifically asked if they would be ok in my freshwater tank, and the answer was yes, they will be fine. reason i asked is because the tag for the fish said they require salt in the water. im going to get my money back, and ask the manager why they even sell them without giving the tiniest bit of info to the buyer. i will now cycle my tank, and get some new ones in about a week, along with setting it up for saltwater.

you may also want to read the cycling thread, cycling a tank can take much longer than just one week
