I went to my lfs today and I surcumbed to the betta temptation and bought a VT male with gorgeous long fins and gorgeous coloring. He's fine as can be it's the other guy I got that might not be ok.
The other male came in probably 1 1/2- 2 weeks ago to the pet shop and he looked exactly like the other new boy I got. I almost bought him then but decided to wait. A few days went by and I went to the shop to see him torn to shreds. I'm not sure what happened but he's missing quite a lot of finnage. Kinda reminds me of a plaket now
I felt sorry for him but still didn't bring him home. Then today as I was getting the other betta I noticed he had been moved out of the betta section (they keep them in half gallon kritter keepers usually) to one of the big tanks on the bottom level
Nobody was ever going to notice him there..and if they did nobody would buy him. So feeling guilty because initially I was going to buy him 1 1/2- 2 weeks ago I said to myself you can't get this other new one if you dont get him too. So as the girl was putting the pretty boy into a bag I said to her "this boy down here see he's been ripped to shreds I'll take him home and nurse him back to health if you give him to me for free" She was looking all in the tank but he was nowhere to be seen. Then she moved the filter and there he was behind it so she took a look at him and said "yeah for sure you can have him for free" so she bagged him up for me too.
I wasn't planning on getting these guys today so I had to make a quick dash to the hardware store where I bought two 1.5 gallon clear buckets. They are only temporary until I can get to another shop that sells the kritter keepers.
So anyways, the torn up boy I noticed his left eye is buldging a bit but not full on pop-eye just kind of the verge of turning into to pop-eye. Should I treat him or just do daily water changes in hopes it gets better?
Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures! It's hard getting good shots when they are in not-so-clear buckets. These pictures just don't do them justice
Here's the new guy with all his fins
and here's the new guy with choppy fins
