you dont need anymore than that, i followd it with my first spawn and everything went fine.

While I was doing my betta research and betta breeding research, this site kept coming up in the searches. I found the information to be very thorough, easy to follow, and very similar to the information found on other websites.

If you want more sites, do a search. But the pinned topic really is all of the information you need. I also did a search on YouTube for betta breeding just to see some of the tank set-ups people were using for their bettas.

:)

Other than the pinned topic there are other places:
http://www.bettysplendens.com/articles/catview.imp?catid=855
http://www.abettaworld.com/breeding_tips.html
http://www.bettatalk.com/

The pinned topic here has lots of good information but there is no one way to breed bettas. Read as many different sites and do as much research as you can. Take what you want from each site and do what works best for you and your fish. If it doesn't work, do more research and make changes. That's the best advice I can give you. I don't support breeding VTs, but if that's what you are set on...good luck.

Hi dmarie04 Just out of interest why don't you support breeding VT's ?

-I love my fishies-SOME people feel this way (from the breeding bettas pinned thread):...Also, don't breed veiltail bettas. Lovely though they may be, there are millions and millions of homeless veiltails out there, so don't contribute to the "betta in cup" market. Get a nice, quality pair of bettas to breed with. You should have no trouble getting rid of quality betta fry...

Personally, I dont see a problem in breeding high quality VT's if you try to provide them with good homes, just like any other fish. Each to their own.

VeilTails are so common. They are found in every pet store, fish store, walmart, I've even heard of Dollar Stores selling them in some places! When you breed you can get up to 400 fry. Even the more common 100 is still a lot! What are you going to do with that many babies when they are already available just about everywhere you look? Sure you could give them to friends and family...but not all of them. Most pet stores already have large contracts with overseas breeders. Even if they take yours you are dooming the fish to lives in dirty cups, being sold to uneducated people. You can't sell them online. People online are looking for rarer tail types and don't want to pay the shipping costs for a fish they can go across town and pay a couple bucks for. You could cull them. But then what's the point of going through the cost of breeding them if you end up killing most of them off? Breeding VeilTails is just not a good idea and it costs just as much (besides the cost of fish) and takes just as much time to breed a quality pair of fish as it does to breed a pair of petstore fish. Still, people still insist on doing it and there's no way to stop them. The best thing to do is just to educate them for the sake of their fish.

re breeding VTs there are already hundreds of them without homes, they arent as easy to find homes for as more 'pure bred' strains, you also dont know the genetic history of VTs. While lovely pets they arent really the best to breed

ok I see I have a VT Cosmo he is beautiful blue (on outterof fins) with pink (on innner of fins)I found him to be alot more attractive than any of the CT I have seen.... his colours where really different and striking but I would have to agree with you the plain VT's that are just red or blue etc would find it alot harder to find homes.

I really never thought of it that way I have no plans on breeding my VT he is my office buddy.... he is the first Betta I have bought and I have only had him for 3 weeks.

I am getting a ** Copper Rosetail BF ** from Thailand he is being shipped as we speak I cant wait to get him, is there any thing special I should do with my tank for this type of Betta? (sorry to get off the subject)

If you breed a VT with a CT you will end up with a lot of combtail betta's, the tails will look ragged and not very attractive. Either breed a CT with a CT or a VT with VT or at the very least a SD.

Once again if you do want to breed then please check out the pinned topic first to see exactly what you are going to have to get, then what are you going do with all the fry you get, with luck you will end up with 100 hungry little mouths to feed, if you aren't so lucky you may end up with 20+ either way you still have to home them and a VT CT mix will look very ragged and unattractive.

Check out the pinned topic, prepare your tanks, cultures etc, then seriously think about what sort of fish you want at the end of the spawning, good luck with whatever you do, but please remember you could end up with fish you cannot rehome :good:

ok I'll just breed hes whith fred my crountail (or will I) :shifty:

I live in uk petco has a big 200 gaal aguarium for less than 200 bettas the tank has filter and barraks they each get their oun gallon shesh
