Well, went into my friends shop today, its the main fish/reptile shop I go to and he was given in this wee gecko, someone who couldn't/didnt want to get him back up to health. My friend, the owner of the shop doesn't really have the time to get him back up to health along with all the other livestock he has so he told me to take this with me.
I've been wanting one for a while, researched them on and off for over a year but didn't think the OH would have any of it. She said aye so here he is.

As i said, he's not in great health, had to force feed him earlier and give him a wee warm water cotton bud wash in order to get the patchy skin off him as he's not shedding as he should be.

Anyone else keep them?

I know I've a lot of work ahead of me but I had to give him the best chance of living he could get.

awwwww love him!!
ive taken on 2 bearded dragons in an even worse state, no UV heat for food for months :( dunno how people can do it.. but they are on the road to health again, although in the male the deficiencies are irreparable

Wow!!! Poor little mite!! He looks horrendous!!! :-( How can anyone do that to a poor little gecko and not see that he is suffering!!

What treatments are you trying!?

He looks awfully emaciated, probably really dehydrated and Metabolic Bone Disorder... and probably full of worms!!

Not sure what your plans are but you need to find a good wormer for him ASAP or he is going to carry on wasting, however much you manage to get him to feed!

http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/reptile-supplies/reptile-treatments/reptile-wormers-and-parasite-medicines/beaphar-anti-flagellate-small-5ml.html

And get some Critical Care Formula, it replaces the nutrients that he is so desperately lacking.....

And also... lots of calcium!! If he isnt eating on his own, a dropper with liquid calcium or waxworm dropped in water then rolled in calcium and vitamin D3 powder and then force fed as necessary...

I hate to say it but he doesnt look like he has much longer without emergency intervention :(

Crikey just seen Shelaghs facebook link. He looks shocking. Mbous advice will be spot on, being honest Im a novice with the reptiles Ive never encountered problems with my reptiles and dont know them like my fish

without being an expert id have to say he doesnt look too likely to pull through but I hope he does

for best advice try RFUK its a cracking forum for reptiles and will give you the best advice on that poor fella :good:

Hi and thanks for the replies.

MBOU, I've got that wormer you posted the link of. I've got the powder calcium and like you've said, using it with a wax worm. I ordered the critical care formula before I even left with him yesterday, it said 1-2 working days for delivery. I didn't know I needed vitamin D3 powder. What exactly is that for?
He's in a sorry state I know, but even if he doesn't pull through then I'll know I've done my best I can to try and give him a good life.

I'll have a wee looky look at that forum Simon, thanks.

There will beVitamin D3 in the calcium supplement i expect :) Vitamin D3 helps them to absorb the calcium you are giving them into the body.

RFUK is a great forum, i'm a member on there too, though mainly in the fish section but i have a chameleon and did have lots of snakes.

I hope he makes it! Keep us posted!

Well I had him at the vets today, bought medications and treated him with them.
Just went to check on him and he's passed on. The whole family is upset.
The meds I ordered off the net are due to come tomorrow, I really cannot stand the thought of answering the door to the post man.

people let their animals get like this ?
if i was in charge, they'd be shot.

good luck :D

Im sorry to hear about him, he really was in a bad way, there really wasnt much you could do for him...

At least he died in comfort, he knew someone cared for him. Poor little mite...

Things like Critical Care are usefull, keep it handy as can be used for any sick animals :good:
