Hello,

I've just added a new program to my small collection of freeware aquarium toys, called "SoftWaterWare". It's basically a version of the Pearson's Square that allows you to quickly work out how much tap (faucet) water to how much rainwater you need to get water of a certain hardness. It toggles the output between ratios and percentages. There is a screenshot below.

I have a few other programs that might be of interest, such as Brack Calc, which converts between salinity (g/litre), specific gravity, and percentages of seawater. It's a useful tool if you keep brackish water fish but have information sources using different systems of measurement. There also a screenshot below.

FishTankTool is a "Swiss Army" knife for aquarists that help you work out all kinds of things, like volumes, how many fish a tank will hold, and conversions between different measurement systems. Can I Keep It? is one I think is fun, being a compatability device letting beginners figure out which fish go with which. There also a screenshot below. More Can I Keep It? does the same thing but with less common fish species. There's a screenshot of Can I Keep It? below.

You can download these toys here...

I like the tool, I tried the 'can I keep it' program, The only thing I might add is a way to print out the info, like a report of all the fish you chose with pictures

another Idea would maybe a place to put in your info like sg and tank size and what not, then based on the info you provide, it can unlock or lock out certain fish. then if you pass the cursur over the fish name while its greyed out, explain what needs to change.

other than that it looks nice and worked pretty good

Thanks for this. It's a good idea. It is sort of in there already, if you do the "quick picks" then only certain species are revealed. So, for example, if you choose "Peaceful", then aggressive or nippy species are locked out. In the "About Community tanks" there's a short blurb about how to choose community fish, and in part why species can or can't be mixed is explained.

But a tool tip or something that explains something about the good or bad points of a certain species is certainly easy to implement, and might make things a bit clearer.

Cheers,

Neale

Those are all very useful tools :) Thanks! (and I hope there's a pinned topic with these in it somewhere as I'm sure a lot of beginners would find certain of those especialy useful as guides)

Great programs. I tried Can I Keep It 2 on my Mandriva Linux computer and it runs great using Wine. I don't use Windows very often so finding something like this that will work for me under Linux is great.
Thanks,
Bryan
