One thing I've learned in the last 4 days is that a lot of what you read or hear is opinion and that bettas really can survive many ways. I was so worried about feeding, twice a day or 3 times a week? Then I realized that many people do it different ways. A Betta can go a long while with out food, but they shouldn't have to. They don't need filters or heaters, but they would enjoy it. You don't have to give them 3 gallons, but they will be very happy. They don't require brine or worms, but they will love you for it.

They are very flexible and you just need to decide for your self what you want to do. My plan is a 3 gallon Eclipse w/ biowheel. Small heater (undecided on size, just heard walmart has 7-8watt heaters). Some Java Moss/Fern. Daily feedings of Hakari pellets, with rotation on frozen brine/worms and 1 day fasting.

All this I've learned in the last 4 days here. This is such a wonderful place to meet great people and learn what you need to know.
yes but some of those opinions are about merely keeping the fish alive. other opinions are about how to make your fish happy and thrive.
That's sort of my point. Some things you read are the minimum for a betta to stay alive. Other things you read are what some people do to keep their bettas very happy. The hard part for me at first was understanding the difference.

lol yes, anything below 70 is getting dangerous for bettas. I had that problme, the temp would hit 68F during the night and my betta would be pale, listless, constnatly on the bottom and refusing food. Doesnt make you very ahppy either :)

or you can just get a 10G or something and divide it into sections (like 4 or something) and put 4 bettas in therea dn tehy can all share a heater adn filter :)

Getting a 25, 35 or even 50W heater poses no problems whatsoever, for a tank of 3 Gallons even 2.5 Gallons, as long as it has a thermostat and isnt some gordy make. I use to house my bettas in 2. 6 Gallons with a constant temp of 79 degrees. My fish never got boiled..... currently i use an ecotherm 50W (which is shorter in length) and a Hagen Compact Thermal 35W heater for both of my 4. 5 Gallon tanks, and everything has been fine.
