i just went to the LFS to buy a fish and came out with multiple bags of fish! d*mmit!

but at the same time, YAYY :hyper:

i got 3 firemouths, a gold sev, and a female blue acara
i'll take pics this afternoon as they're still in bags

they are all 1" (except BA which is 2-3")at the moment so plenty of tank space
i plan on hopefully getting a pair of FM's and moving the third on
the gold sev will not be a permanent tank mate, probably at 4-5" i'll move him on or upgrade because i don't want to keep him in my 160L tank as an adult, its too small (excuse to upgrade :p)
as for the female BA she'll be paired up with my current BA because he's been moping ever since i removed his last girlfriend (and i don't plan on keeping a BA pair with a FM pair, haha)

if i upgrade i'm going for a 5'x2'x2' would that be big enough for all these fish?

Your upgrade would be 566.34 Liters, which is 149.61 US Gallons and 124.58 UK Gallons.
I would try to keep them togeter but, here is always room for error, such as the 2 pairs going at eachother's throats.

no pics yet, they're still very shy. but the BA's are displaying to each other which is nice =)
the girl is about 1 third his size but

Congrats. But we need pics. I hope your paire get along better the Mine.

the firemouths and sev are still very shy, but i managed to get a pic of the sev =)

as you can see she's quite scared. i can't wait for these new fish to tame to me B-)

and this is the best i can do for the acaras, the eggs are on the back side of that wood

the lights went off earlier and i heard a splash, yeah i think there might be trouble(pupa smurf and his last girlfriend used to fight at lights out, but she was bigger than him). the new girl might be going in the grow out tank with the FMs and sev i think.

Ah bless the teeny Sev

As they grow and gain more confidence they will soon be out and about.

is yours a gold sev minx? i'd be so impressed if my scrawny little sev turned out anything like yours. i think i'll name it sprout =D

also i was doing a little experiment with the blue acaras. it seems that when the lights are off they can't recognize eachother and start to fight to protect the eggs from one another, but the instant the light comes on they both go back and guard the eggs together
...nutjobs

nice fish. My acaras had a love hate thing going on. When they first laid the eggs everything was great they both looked after the eggs no problems. Then as a few days past they started to become more unsure of each other. Then once the eggs were free swimming they had turned on eachother. One took over the guarding of the nest and would not let the other near them. It was the female most of the time that did this. They would fight over who got the care for the eggs and a big tug of war. the winner got the nest the loser got the far end of the tank.

They did this every time they spawned they never figuared out how to get along when babies were involved. They spawned 8 times in 7 months of me having them. They were both 1" when I got them and now are 4" the male is smaller I know it's weird. He is just a runt I guess.

I hope yours can make the relationship work. Mine are split up for good now.

oh well the gold sev will look nice also :)
they've all started swimming about the tank, but when i go close they all hide again :shifty:

yeah i've noticed that most people have dramas when they try and get a breeding program going around here. they're all really nice fish to keep but once they're breeding they become possessed
