New Fish

It definitely looks a whole lot different than all the rams that have been posted on here. It's less than an inch big though. Only at just the right angle can you see the blue tint to it. The fins are red on the tips. I don't have a water changing schedule. I just test my water nitrates in the evening when I get home. As soon as it passes 40ppm I do a 30 percent change. I probably do a water change every 5 days or so. I have co2, lots of light, many plants, and my filter cycles the water in my tank 13 times an hour so I'll bet the water quality will be good.

Ooops, looks like I forgot to add the video:

That's really handy! thank you. I'm pretty sure I have a female, she has jewels in her spot.

I think this is a little better of a picture.

Feeding brine shrimp will help the color. Also make sure it has plenty of place to hide, they will color stronger once they get used to your tank, make sure it has plenty of places to go hide and make itself feel safe. U might want to sex it and give it a mate, they are happier in pairs and it can result in gorgeous spawning colors. Just remember, they are from south america and do best in soft acidic water.

Oh, and what do you have the temperature set at? GBRs like warm water, I have my temperature set at 26 Celsius!

I have it set about 25 Celsius. I plan on getting her a mate. I believe it's a female. My shop is getting a few in for me to choose from. I have lots of dense plant. She seems to enjoy that. Her appetite is good. She enjoys blood worms, brine shrimp and veggie rounds. She seems to get along well with her tank mates. My angelicus loach and her had a little spat when he pulled a blood worm from her mouth. She mostly hangs around between a few rocks some rotala. Her reds are starting to stand out but her blue spots are still a little dull.

if you get black substrate and a dark background it will colour up more

Getting some blue hue on its body now! It's body shape looks a little elongated, my rams have a rounder shape to them. It will be interesting to see the progress!

Yeah I'll keep posting on here. Tomorrow I should be getting a male if my store's supplier actually bring them in. I saw picture of a balloon blue ram? They were fat little suckers. I think mine is an oddball. Probably less desirable than the more colorful rounder ones but I don't mind. She seems healthy and active and gets along with my other fish.

I've looked at a site when searching for golden rams and when I saw this fish I thought of yours:

The picture I mean is the one under the article talking about diseases and food!
The info on that site is interesting to read too!

That is interesting. Thank you for that link. The long finned ram is interesting, a little flamboyant, but interesting.

I found another ram. I think it's a male. There were 6 to choose from and this one seemed to have the most male traits.
