Hi All,

I put my 1st fish in last night as i am new to fish keeping and my LFS have been advising me what to do etc...

Well i bought 5 cardinal tetras, and a small plec... I have forgot the name (sorry) but i hope you all agree, he is a fanastic specimen, black with white tips on the fins and a gold shimmer over the body...

I only have a video of the tetras, will try and get some pics tonight...

Hope you like :)

Very nice plec, he's looks very at home already.

Good luck with the fish keeping.

Great pics. Did your lfs advise you about cycling your tank before you added your fish? Have you got a test kit to test the water. I only ask because a lot of people have followed bad advice from their lfs and lost their fish due to this.

Yes i did all that, waited patiantly before i put the fish in, i tested the water before i went and got the fish and everything is spot on!! Temp is fluctuating however between 26 (at night) and 29(in the day) this is due tot he weather at the moment so i am looking at putting more controls in place and monitor the temp more closely.

Well done you, you did everything right for your fish. It's a great tank.

Thanks, its only a little one for now to get me going i am looking at upgrading in 6months... i will put a pic up of the actual tank pre fish shortly!

gorgeous pleco! do you know what kind it is and how big it'll get???

That looks like tuffa rock. If it is then it will raise your pH, which is fine in most cases. Except when you want to keep tetras (especially neons and cardinals) as they prefer acidic water. Otherwise nice tank.

Well done for doing it correctly! The rock will raise the ph, but I have read several accounts on here where it has made .2 - .4 difference. What was your ph to start with? The plecs looks really interesting, funny shape. I'm sure if you post a picture in the pleco section someone will identify him for you if you don't get an answer from this thread.

Congratulations mate, well done.

Thank you, i love him!! well my LFS reckon it could go to a foot in ten years and would be worth £££, he is currently 2inches

Very nice set up! That pleco is a stunner

Thank you very much :)

Thank you :) I couldnt tell you what the PH was before i started, but it is on 7 at the minute, however im using the strips to check the PH, NO2, NO3, and the other two i cant remember off the top off my head... is there a better kit to measure more accuratley?

Yes i might do that as my LFS is slightly baffled with him too, i think i made a good pick there!

by waiting patiently, i hope u mean u actually cycled the tank for usually close to a month?

also, in order to really know if your water parameters are ok, u need to get rid of those test strips, and go with a way more accurate liquid test kit.

just my .02
