I've just put some new fish in my tank earlier today but I could really do with doin a big water change. How long is a good time to wait before doing one as not to stress the newbies out too much that they die.
It's all relative to how much you had in mind, and how dirty the water is. Try a water test to see your ph. levels, then make a decision based on them. What fish do you have in your tank?
I would try and avoid a water change for at least another 3 days.
Never do a water change over 20% at a time, and be sure to get some dechlorinator if you are using tap water.
Sorry, if I had shouted at you. Bad day with this litterbug at Tesco's (see my Rant No2 thread).
Ah well, what's done is done. I think if you leave your fishes to settle for at least a couple/few days you should be fine.
Questions
1) How big is your tank?
2) What new fishes have you got?
3) Have you 'cycled' your tank?
4) have you tested your water quality?
5) What research have you done to any of the above q's?
There are people in this forum, who really want to help you. I hope you understand this.
For the future, even though I do 2 water changes a week on my tanks, when ever I even think I may go purchase fish, I always do water change day b4.
IMO that is best solution, because with all the other crap new fish have to put up with before you bag them up and bring them home, at least they come to a stable undisturb tank for atleast couple of days.
u can change the water abot an hour after but use water of the same temp and do it in samll abounts so drain about 10% and slowly add the water about 1% each time.
As long as the water is dechlorinated and the same temperature there is no limit on the percentage of water that can be changed. Some hobbyists, and a lot of breeders, have flow through systems where their water is constantly changed. As long as the temperature is the same the fish shouldn't be stressed.
Done it any all is well Ciaphas looks a little sad but thats normal. I figured out why it looked so awful so quick and I'm supprised I have any fish left to be honest. Something had gone rusty in my tank
