I bought one male and female killiefish. One is yellow which is the maie and light toned - female. I wanted to know what I could feed these fish as they do eat brine shrimp and black worms.

I am told black worms are not so safe due to bacteria and such. The only reason I am saying this is that I read it elsewhere. It could be just someone's preference or their own opinion.

I have snails and I feed them frozen zucchini and my molly eat it too.

So in that same line what could I feed my "killiefish?" I heard frozen peas could be good??

I would appreciate any feedback as to what I can feed them other than dry flake food. Want them to have a little variety.

Thanks for listening.

My Killiefish that I kept would take, Hikari Baby Pellets and Flake.

Wow! What a large selection of fish you have.

Can I buy the product you mentioned at a pet aquarium shop. (Hikari Baby Pellets).

This may sound funny but what are Hikari Baby Pellets?

Thanks for the advice.

I feed mine frozen bloodworms (Hikari), freeze-dried bloodworms (Hikari) and live Blackworms 2 or 3 times a week.

The other times, Hikari Flake, betta pellets, Hikari cichlid pellets.

He'll eat anything that will fit in his mouth.

You probably have a Yellow Panchax.

Here's a great article that Auratus wrote on them:

Thank you for the great info. I will check out the web site now.

Thanks again.

BTW, be careful when your feeding them. These fish can jump. They tend to "attack" their food.

I've noticed mine tends to hit harder when the other fish come to the top. I make it a point to put the first bits of food right in front of him so he doesn't freak out as much.

Congrats on your new killies! They are great fish.

Yup, sounds like the Golden Panchax. Make sure your hood is tight-fitting and doesn't have any decent holes around the heater, etc since as comet said they're great jumpers. They can also be aggressive, so do watch out for your smaller fish in the tank. Catfish and anything bigger than the killies are ok, but anything they can get in their mouths and any other top-dwellers will be harassed. My experience was that the male can also be uber-aggressive to the female, so I would suggest some floating plants for her to hide in.

Oh and I nearly forgot ... Killies are predators and they prefer live food (or frozen/freeze dried varieties of live food). However, your pair are fairly common as killies go and big eaters to boot, so they will most likely eat flakes and anything else resembling food. Bloodworms and/or whiteworms at least once weekly will help bring out their colors.
