New Fish Introduced...

my betta fighting fish is being very aggressive towards them, chasing them and flaring up alot, is this just because there are new fish in his territory? is the fighting likely to die down after time or do i have a problem on my hands - the new fish are rosey tetra's

depends how big the tank is? and maybe hes just very aggressive alot of people say they should be kept alone...............

Bettas are fairly aggressive fish, although usually only with each other. How big is your tank?

its a 9 gallon tank so not that big

theres only him and 6 other fish tho

it seems to have calmed down a bit now

tho i think chan is just tired, been going mental for an hour!

6 other fish?! What are they? I think you'll be looking at long term aggression problems with so many fish. Especially if they are in the same area as the betta. They can't exactly get away from each other.

Only other thing might be to rearrange your tank.

it should be the other way around, get a new tank for the other fish
so they have space to grow

they are neon something tetra - they are orange with black markings near the gill and on fins

they are getting bullied alot at the moment, should i consider returning them?

Have you also got male tetras with longer fins than the one pictured? It could be that your betta sees your tetras as some sort of bettas in disguise which would make him aggressive.

those are red phantom tetras
I personally would not house them in such a small tank.
my advise would be to return them.

i think they are going to have to go back or there will be death

they are all small finned

not sure why the betta has taken so aggressively to them - perhaps its the colours

shame, they look great but it must be a very stressed tank at the moment

Bottom dwellers are the best idea for tank mates with most male bettas as they don'tgo into 'their' space.

Otos are small enough for your tank and also pygmy cories but that's probably about it.

I have this set up in a 5 gal w/biowheel. The first day the betta swam around and looked like he was trying to eat them. Then he settled down and has not looked at them. A friend on the other hand has a betta that will kill any thing in his tank. He has tried pygmys, ghost shrimp, dwarf frogs and white clouds. Everthing had to be saved from him. This guy will flare at any movement and will even go after your hand!

1 Blue w/red betta
1 otto cat (tank is 6 months old)
3 pygmy cories
planted with real plants

i think ive just got a really aggressive minded betta

hopefully the fish will last the night

does anyone know if the tetra's will fight back and nip the betta's fins?
