The first pearl scale angel looks VERY stunted. Eyes are huge! I suggest possibly re-homing the guppies, as they will not have a nice time in the tank with the angels!

Thanks goby, the angels are only small at the moment about an inch. What sort of problems do you think with the otos and angels?

DiscusLova whats do you mean by stunted, could this be a problem, he/she looks pretty happy at the moment.

Guppies are also in process of being re homed

there won't be any problems with your angels and otos. i have had 4 otos for years and angels for years also and there hasn't been any problems at all.
how big is your tank? otos love a nice amazon sword or some of that grass looking plants... vallisneria or something... anyway they love these to rest in because they fit perfectly on them lol if you understand.

your angel doesn't look stunted either. it's a baby and babies look funny they'll start to fill out, just give it time.

your silver looks gorgeous btw. if these become a pair, you'll have very lovely fry

Oh, I've just heard various times that people's otos have been eaten by their angels.

I would have thought the angels would have a hard time rying to eat the otos as they are a fair size.

The tank is 3ft by 1ft by 1.5ft,

The guppies will be gone as soon as i can find a home for them.

They look stunted. Trust me. Well, the Pearlscale anyways.

Fish stunting has many different reasons. The main reasons being water quality, tank size and diet (stress can also play a role but isn't as big). When you don't meet the needs of those three (major) factors, fish sometimes tend to stop growing, or grow improperly. These can have dire effects on the fish. If the fish are kept in these conditions for long, they tend to become very miserable and die. These fish can have problems re-generating their slime coat, and with that, have a weaker immune system, thus letting them get sick easier. Stunted fish also sometimes have digestive problems, because the bowls don't function properly. All in all stunted fish also have a shorter life span. I also personally think they tend to get stressed quite a bit easier then other fish too for that matter. This damage is un-reversible, so give him a good life, and just put a little more effort into him. Good luck

1.5ft high, He/she seems pretty happy at the moment, the guppies are now all gone and i have just dont a 50% water change so the condtions are pretty good at the moment, and i tend to keep it like that. Out of curiosity how do you sex angels?

Sexing Angels is near impossible, when they are older. It is actually virtually impossible to sex young Angelfish. You have very small angelfish, so try to look out for some subtle differences when they grow. The easiest and best way to sex them is to take a look at their breeding tubes. The females is bigger and more blunt, where as the males tends to be quite a bit smaller and can sometimes almost look a little bit pointed. Males may also can become a little bit bigger, and have a bump on the crown of their head, kind of like a male Frontosa african cichlid, just not so radical.


If you want 100 percent accuracy, watch them breed.
