Ok christmas prezzie for my fish, my 200l tank (ok about 237l or 59 uk gal, but with rocks, bog/mopani wood and gravel, I estimate around 200l of water) is gonna get a new ehiem filter, want it over filtered and have been looking at the ehiem pro thermals and such.

What I wanna know is are the wet dry ehiems any better than the standard? currently have the ones shown in sig and dont like the internals as when you clean them you flood the tank with detritus and stress the fish. The media from the current filters will be used in the new one to keep the bio filter running.

With the wet dry I have heard they are noisy and create a wave effect, is this true? good?

This is the one I had planned on getting...

Prol II Model 2126:
Freshwater:
Designed for aquariums up to 100 gallons, 250 gph flow rate at 25 watts, including 2 media containers that hold up to 4.9 liters (1.29 gallons) of media. Comes with 180-watt integrated heater.

If the wet dry is much better I may get same spec for this filter.

Well, post your opinions please.

TIA

Jon

I have a 2229 Wet/Dry running on my 140g along side a Rena XP3.
Do you know that the Wet/Dry filter is only intended for biological filtration? all 3 baskets are filled with efisubstrat pro and the water comes from te tank until the filter is full, then the filter empties the water back into the tank.
Because of this emptying and filling, the filter is more noisy than a standard filter as you hear water running all the time.
The biological efficiency of this filter is second to none, but I wouldn't have it unless it was backed up with a second filter handling mechanical filtration.
If you are only going to have the one filter, I would go with the Pro II as it will do everything you need. I only have the Wet/Dry because I got it very cheap and wanted to test it to see what it is like. I have to say I am very happy with it, but it is quite a specific product.
